Match Ratings: Leicester v Brentford - Fosse Posse

Leicester denied opening day win – Report by Matt Ballard

A second-half fightback from Brentford denied Leicester a win on the opening weekend of the Premier League. The Foxes were the dominant side in the first half, with Youri Tielemens hitting the post before Timothy Castangne headed home from a corner, something Leicester was notoriously weak on last season.

City then doubled their lead at the start of the second half when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored from outside the box just 25 seconds after the restart.

Sloppy defending from a throw-in allowed Brentford a route back into the game, which Ivan Toney capitalised on by sliding the ball past Ward in goal. The hosts tried to respond with Wesley Fofana hitting the post and Toney spurning a good chance by heading the ball wide from a lovely cross.

However, Leicester could not see the game out, with substitute Josh Da Silva curling home from 20 yards past a helpless Ward.

The draw means questions will again be raised by Leicester being the only team in the Premier League not to make a signing and letting their talismanic captain Kasper Schmeichel leave for Nice whilst James Maddison and Wesley Fofana are wanted by league rivals.

Brenden Rodgers stressed that they were ‘’always looking to strengthen.’’ Amid links to Callum-Hudson Odoi after he requested to leave Chelsea on Saturday.

Next up for Leicester is an away trip to Arsenal, who beat Crystal palace in their opening game.
