Southampton Vs Leicester Preview

Leicester travel down to the South Coast in an important match.

The Foxes are coming off back-to-back victories for the first time since late October which was followed by two 1-1 draws and a 3-0 loss to Chelsea.

Their two victories were the 3-1 win in the Europa League over Legia Warsaw which saw them take control of their group and a 4-2 win over Watford.

The travel down South will be their first of nine matches across December meaning this will feel like a must win to start the busy period off in a positive way. If Hassenhüttl’s side get all three points, they will go one point behind 10th-placed Leicester.

Predicted line-ups:

Goalkeeper – Kasper Schmeichel

Leicester’s number 1 will be sure to start in this match.

Centre back – Daniel Amartey

Amartey has quietly impressed this season and after grabbing a goal in the Europa League, he could be given another start.

Centre back – Jannik Vestergaard

The former Saint could be given a chance at redemption this season. If the Foxes revert to three central defenders, Vestergaard could come in as he looks to get his season started.

Centre back – Calgar Söyüncü

Like Verstergaard, Söyüncü has looked far from his best. His agility and pace could be hugely important in stopping counter attacks though.

Right midfielder – Timothy Castagne

The Belgian is likely to feature. He won everyone over last season, and despite a drop in performances this season, he has remained a fan favourite and a key component to Leicester’s attacks.

Central midfielder – Wilfred Ndidi

Like Söyüncü, Ndidi will be crucial to stopping counter attacks and breaking up play. The Nigerian glides across the pitch to stop the threat before it starts.

Central midfielder – Hamza Choudhury

Choudhury is slowly refinding the form that made him so talked about when breaking through. This could be the game Brendan Rodgers throws him into.

Left midfielder – Luke Thomas

The Welshman has been one of Leicester’s players of the season, admittedly in a down year. Rodgers knows he can rely on Thomas down the left.

Attacking Midfielder – Ayoze Pérez

Pérez has seven goals in 12 appearances against the Saints, more than any other side. He loves playing against them.

Striker – Jamie Vardy

Mr reliable for Rodgers and Leicester. That finish against Watford showed he might have his confidence back.

Striker – Kelchi Iheanacho

Iheanacho could be the perfect partner for Vardy against Southampton’s press. The selfless striker will lead the press and run the channels for the Englishman.
